For another stunner, listen for "Don't Stop;" this was one of their best ever and I can see why it's included here. Fleetwood Mac always sounded good despite what phase of their development they were in; and they enjoyed a large following that still loves their music to this day. "What Makes You Think You're The One" really rocks; and "Gypsy" contains all the power of every rockin' tune they ever did. The sound quality on these two CDs is excellent and I like that artwork. "The Chain" is a number I could never tire of hearing; Fleetwood Mac does this to perfection--and beyond. They sing and play this well; and you never have to struggle to understand the words that they sing. "Rhiannon" is classic Fleetwood Mac; and I really like "Say You Love Me." "Say You Love Me" has great percussion and they do this one up right."Over My Head" has a somewhat smoother flavor to it after all that rocking; it really is another stand-out of this two CD set.
"Dreams" features some great singing primarily by Stevie Nicks; she does this with panache and that's awesome. The first CD starts with "Monday Morning;" this tune has Fleetwood Mac squarely in the spotlight--right where they belonged and still belong. In addition, "You Make Loving Fun" was a big, big hit for Fleetwood Mac; this got a lot of radio airplay when it was first released and it still sounds every bit as good in our times. This is a must have for their fans; and even casual fans would do well to get this CD for their collections.
The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac has two CDs with so much of their best music for us to enjoy over and over again. I really like "Never Going Back Again;" with that intricate, sensitive guitar work--wow. "Landslide" gets another relatively mellow treatment as a woman sings of a love relationship that may or may not stay the same; and "Songbird" is pure haven--what a great piano arrangement they wrote for "Songbird." We also get treated to a live track of "Big Love."The second CD continues the unforgettable music. "The Chain" is faultless--this is all THAT good. "Go Your Own Way" also hit the airwaves big time; and just one listen will tell you why. "The Skies The Limit" follows in the same vein as "Family Man;" and the second CD concludes wonderfully with Fleetwood Mac performing "Paper Doll." This'll leave you wanting more.Fleetwood Mac gave us so much to be grateful for; and these two CDs prove it. We also get a pretty good book of liner notes about the songs and more. "Second Hand News" has quite a strong beat to it mixed with some mighty brilliant lyrics; and there's a big hit with "Little Lies." "Gold Dust Woman" is remarkably poignant when Fleetwood Mac performs it; and "Hold Me" is every bit as good as the other incredible tracks here.
The guitars work well and the percussion enhances the music, too. This is one terrific number and again they really rock. "World Turning" is a gemstone; and I love "Sisters Of The Moon." "Family Man" has a sound that is something of a departure from most of the other tracks on this two CD set; but it still holds its own very well.
I just love this collection of songs - there's not a song to skip. The recordings are fantastic and captures their voices and music very well. You can't listen to these songs on the radio to really appreciate them, you must own this and hear it on cd.
This HAS to be Fleetwood Mac's best compiled collection EVER. I can't name a hit that's not there.
But as often seems the case, the Green-Spencer-Kirwan-Welch lineups have been ignored, making this only half of the superb retrospective it could have been. This is an excellent compilation of the "late" Fleetwood Mac - from Rumours onward. If you like the Buckingham-Nicks era, you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for "Oh Well", "Black Magic Woman", "Bare Trees", "Woman of 1,000 Years", or "Hypnotize", you'll still need to buy the original albums. Although the sound was very different (not better, not worse) once Buckingham and Nicks joined the band, Fleetwood Mac fans deserve the full range of the greatest hits.
Although I'm pleased that many favorable songs are in this collection like don't stop, go your own way, little lies, skies the limit, and hold me. They have various voices in any given songs. I'm glad to own this 2 disc album of fleetwood mac. However, other songs like say you will, and peacekeeper are not included in this collection. For instance, we have Stevie Nicks singing seven wonders and gypsy, Christine McVie singing songbird, and so on. One of the big reasons why I got into Fleetwood Mac was the fact that over the years, I slowly became aware of the various voices and tones of the songs. But that's just me. All in all, this collection is a timepiece and a must have for any Fleetwood Mac fan.
